KALISPELL CHAMBER AND LOCAL ORGANIZATIONS BACK SB 116
Joe Unterreiner, President of the Kalispell Chamber of Commerce, traveled to Helena to support SB 116 on Wednesday, January 25. The aim of the bill is to protect business owners from paying out workers’ compensation costs based on certain false statements made about a medical condition on an employment application that may hinder an employee from performing their essential duties.
The bill is being sponsored by Sen. Blasdel (R) SD4 Kalispell. The local supporters the Kalispell Chamber is working with include Kalispell Regional Health Care, represented by Brad Roy, and Kramer Enterprises, represented by Terry Kramer. Additionally acting in support of the bill is the Montana Chamber of Commerce, the Helena Chamber of Commerce, the Montana Bankers Association and the National Federation of Independent Businesses.
“I appreciate Sen. Blasdel bringing this bill forward, which makes common sense to change workers’ compensation law. By providing penalties for making false statements on an employment application regarding medical condition, the bill helps employers and employees make sure the essential duties of a job may be safely performed” – Joe Unterreiner, Kalispell Chamber President.
