5th Annual Big Shindig
The Glacier Street Rod Association and the Desoto Grill are hosting the 5th annual Big Shindig on Saturday, June 20, from 11 AM to 4 PM, regardless of the weather. The Big Shindig is car show event held each year to celebrate the spirit of downtown Kalispell, have some fun, and serve as a fundraiser. Money raised will benefit Mikayla’s Miracles and Blessings, a local non-profit organization that helps provide assistance and life-enhancing equipment to parents or spouses of individuals with special needs. Car show participation fees as well as proceeds from the auction of a 1920 steel body Dodge Brother’s Roadster with a 454 high-performance crate engine will benefit the charity. Organizers of the Big Shindig are expecting a few of the Grand National Roadster Show winners from Oregon and Washington this year. No prior registration is required for participants wishing to show their cars, and there is a fee of $20 per vehicle paid on the morning of the event. After 8 AM, participants may park their cars in and around 1st Street West between 1st and 3rd Avenues as well as in parking lots near the Desoto Grill. Admission to the Saturday event is free. Part of the festivities will include the “infamous” Pin-up Polar plunge and there will be live music throughout the day from Justin Phillips, Badger Hound, and The Lucitones. Beer, wine, and barbecue meals will be available for purchase. T.L. Slicks Barber Shop and Shave Parlor will have chairs on site and offer haircuts. Additional vendors will be on site to offer an array of related products and services. Weather-permitting, there will be a pre-event on the preceding Friday evening where car show participants will be cruising Kalispell’s Main Street as part of “Kruise Kalispell”.
