Next month’s selection: Behind the Beautiful Forevers by Katherine Boo.
As India starts to prosper, the residents of Annawadi—a makeshift Mumbai settlement in the shadow of luxury hotels—are electric with hope. Abdul, an enterprising teenager, sees “a fortune beyond counting” in the recyclable garbage that richer people throw away. Meanwhile ambitious Asha has identified a shadier route to the middle class. With a little luck, her beautiful daughter, Annawadi’s “most-everything girl,” might become its first female college graduate. Follow the powerful stories of families striving toward a better life in an era of tumultuous global change and increasing inequality. ImagineIF Kalispell Meeting Room, April 9, 4:30-5:30 p.m.
