Glacier Hops Ranch, Inc. Named SBA's 2022 Montana, Rocky Mountain Region VIII and National Small Business Exporter of the Year
WASHINGTON – Today, SBA Montana District Director, Brent Donnelly, announced Glacier Hops Ranch, Inc. in Whitefish, has been named the 2022 Montana Small Business Exporter of the Year, 2022 SBA Rocky Mountain Region VIII Small Business Exporter of the Year, and the 2022 SBA National Small Business Exporter of the Year.
“Glacier Hops Ranch,Inc. (GHR) has disrupted the hops/brewing industry with their innovation and ingenuity, creating new products and processes along the way,” said Montana SBA District Director, Brent Donnelly.
GHR began quietly in 2012, as the first commercial hopyard in Montana. Originally established to test the local climate for growing hops, GHR now supports other growers in developing markets for their hops and no longer grows hops itself. GHR has evolved into two distinct business segments; a global broker/dealer of premium processed hops sourced directly from other hop growers around the world, and as the sole global producer of Hopzoil™.
In 2015, GHR began testing the viability of extracting hop oils from fresh, wet hops right out of the field, rather than traditional kiln-drying and pelletizing the hops for breweries. From this process, Hopzoil was born.
Hopzoil, is a pure essential oil made only from field-fresh hops that are steam-distilled through a proprietary process that captures full-strength, pure volatile oils that are typically lost in the traditional hops drying process. The result produces a harvest-fresh hop sensory impact that can be put right into the finished beverage. GHR is the only commercial producer in the world employing this extraction process at commercial scale for the brewing and nutraceuticals/dietary supplements/cosmetics industries. In 2021, GHR launched two technologically-advanced formats of Hopzoil that are fully water-soluble that have quickly grown to represent over 80% of the Hopzoil sales volume.
“Exporting has been an eye-opening and a tremendous growth opportunity for our company,” said Tom Britz, President/CEO . “Our company has generally grown exponentially since 2015, while each year our international sales have made up a larger percentage of total sales. Exporting has allowed us to grow, find new opportunities and markets across 50 countries, and mitigate the risk of being reliant on just our domestic markets”.
An official awards presentation will be hosted by the SBA’s Montana District on April 28, 2022, at Glacier Hops Ranch’s facilities in Whitefish.
National Small Business Week will be observed May 1-7, 2022. It will celebrate our small businesses, provide critical resources and recognize SBA partners for their support in providing startups and small business owners with counseling and advice, skills development, disaster preparedness and recovery, as well as access to capital, government contracting, and market opportunities to start, grow and build resilient businesses.
The winners will be formally recognized on May 5 during the National Small Business Week (NSBW) Virtual Summit’s Awards Ceremony, May 2-5. This year’s NSBW theme, “Building a Better America Through Entrepreneurship,” highlights the resilience, ingenuity, and creativity of these award winners who, like millions of small businesses, have navigated challenges from the pandemic and contributed to our nation’s economic comeback.
