Set in turn-of-the-century New York City, Newsies follows a ragtag band of teenage newspaper sellers — the “newsies” — led by a charismatic orphan named Jack Kelly. When powerful newspaper publisher Joseph Pulitzer raises the price the newsies must pay for their papers, Jack rallies the kids to strike — with the help of plucky young reporter Katherine Plumber — demanding fair treatment and respect. As the newsies organize a city-wide strike, they fight not just for better wages, but for dignity, solidarity, and hope in a harsh world. Along the way there’s friendship, courage, music, and the belief that united — even scrappy kids can stand up to power and “seize the day.”
