There’s a special kind of energy in the Flathead Valley each winter — and nowhere is it more alive than at Whitefish Skijoring. This iconic Montana winter tradition brings together the horse world and the ski world for an exhilarating, high-adrenaline spectacle that can only happen here.

Celebrating its 20th anniversary over Valentine’s Weekend, Feb 14 &15 in Kalispell, Whitefish Skijoring features two full days of fast-paced, family-friendly action. Teams of horses, riders, and skiers race down the course at full speed, combining athleticism, precision, and Montana grit in a thrilling display of winter sport. Racing runs throughout the day, with the Professional divisions taking on the course in the afternoon, delivering some of the most exciting moments of the weekend.

Beyond the racing, the event offers a vibrant winter atmosphere with roaring crowds, fire pits, food and drinks, and nonstop energy — making it one of the Flathead Valley’s most anticipated winter events. Often described as Montana’s own extreme winter games, Whitefish Skijoring has become a must-see tradition for locals and visitors alike.

The celebration continues Saturday night with the Calcutta Auction at Fatt Boys in Kalispell, where spectators can buy their favorite team for a chance to win part of the pot during Sunday’s races.
