Glacier Bank Park is looking for a reliable and hands-on Exterior Facilities Lead to maintain the operational readiness, appearance, and upkeep of the property's grounds, outdoor spaces, parking areas, and associated exterior systems (with occasional support at sister properties).
This is a full-time role that reports to the Director of Facilities. The Exterior Facilities Lead is responsible for competing groundskeeping, landscaping, cleaning, maintenance, repairs, outdoor improvement projects, and snow and ice removal operations. This position requires both the ability to perform physical labor while teaching others and coordinating with specialized vendors to complete tasks and projects efficiently. Strong troubleshooting skills, attention to detail, and the ability to operate and maintain equipment are essential.
The position requires a flexible schedule based on weather, events, projects, and operational needs. Normal business hours are 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM, but early mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays, and extended hours may occasionally be required. During winter weather events, snow operations may begin as early as 5:30 AM.
The location of this position is at Glacier Bank Park, 25 McDermott Lane, Kalispell, Montana. Some travel to sister properties may be required.
Compensation: This is a full-time, hourly position with competitive pay. Benefits include health insurance, dental insurance, vision insurance, 401(k) with matching incentive, and paid time off (PTO).
Primary responsibilities for this role will include:
Maintain grassed, landscaped areas, flower beds, trees, and native plantings by mowing, trimming, edging, weeding, mulching, fertilizing, and performing basic irrigation system operation and maintenance.
Monitor trees, plants, and other landscaping elements to ensure proper watering; immediately report watering, plant health, or landscape issues.
Conduct regular inspections of grounds, exterior systems, structures, and equipment; identify and report leaks, damage, safety concerns, or appearance issues and assist with corrective actions.
Keep parking areas, walkways, entrances, exteriors, and outdoor spaces clean and presentable.
Maintain the seating bowl, including routine inspections, maintenance, and repairs of seats.
Perform general grounds upkeep including litter pickup, pressure washing, cleaning, painting, and other repair and improvement projects.
Participate in property enhancement projects including but not limited to fencing, planting, installations and upgrades, etc.
Perform seasonal preparations, including opening and closing procedures, winterization, and weather-related operational readiness.
Perform snow/ice removal (often starting at 5:30 AM), including operation of plows, push boxes, brine systems, and application of ice-control materials.
Independently lead assigned projects from planning through completion.
Teach other personnel how to complete basic grounds tasks and repairs. Oversee their productivity and work quality.
Coordinate with contractors and vendors to obtain estimates, schedule services, coordinate access, supervise and track progress, and confirm work is complete when specialized work is required.
Safely operate, inspect, and maintain equipment and machinery such as mowers, trimmers, blowers, utility vehicles, and power tools; report issues promptly.
Respond promptly and professionally to property issues and emergencies.
Assist with field and synthetic turf maintenance as directed.
Maintain accurate records of inspections, maintenance, repairs, projects, and equipment servicing.
Maintain clean, organized maintenance shops, storage areas, tools, equipment, parts, and supplies.
Follow all safety protocols, use required PPE, and keep a clean, safe work environment.
Support event preparation and tear-down including cleaning, special setups, and the handling of tables, chairs, barricades, signage, and equipment.
Assist with loading, unloading, moving, transporting, and storing equipment, furniture, supplies, and materials.
Perform other related duties as assigned to support the safety, appearance, functionality, and operations of Glacier Bank Park’s buildings.
Qualifications:
Previous experience in groundskeeping, landscaping, facilities maintenance, or a related hands-on outdoor role is required.
Working knowledge of weed control, irrigation systems, equipment maintenance and repair, and seasonal preparations (including winterization and snow/ice operations).
Ability to safely operate grounds and maintenance equipment, including mowers, trimmers, blowers, plows, brine systems, utility vehicles, and power tools.
Ability to read and interpret equipment manuals, system documentation, and parts catalogs.
Knowledge of applicable occupational hazards and safety standards, including OSHA, NFPA, EPA, and ASHRAE regulations and guidelines.
Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, and attention-to-detail skills.
Ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and work effectively with minimal supervision or as part of a team.
Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to clearly discuss grounds and exterior system needs and issues.
Basic administrative and computer skills, including ordering supplies, maintaining records and documentation, scheduling maintenance, and coordinating with others.
Interest in sports and pride in maintaining high-quality facilities preferred.
Physical strength and dexterity to lift, move, and handle equipment; ability to lift 50+ pounds, stand and walk for extended periods, navigate all areas of the property, work in confined spaces when needed, and primarily work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
